Future Years Project

This project enables socially isolated vulnerable BME older people (defined as over 50 years old) from all different BME communities to meet in a safe environment where they can interact with other people and become active citizens making changes which will improve the quality of their lives. The project provides opportunities to learn and experience new activities which will build participants confidence and skills, making them more able to affect positive change within their neighbourhoods.

The project also provide advice, support and activities for BME older people that increases their knowledge of services, benefits and opportunities that are available to them and helps to improve their health and wellbeing. Recent activities have included swimming, yoga, gardening and cooking.

The aim is to reduce social isolation amongst BME older men improving their health and well-being to give them the confidence to become active citizens in their local communities. The Future years project works with 25 older men and 35 older women. For more information contact Abu or Ruby at the centre on 0191 564 0888.
